Cold applications for recovery in adolescent athletes: a systematic review and meta analysis

This is a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised cold-water immersion trials, reporting only trivial-to-small overall effects on recovery and rating the underlying trial quality as low to moderate (mean PEDro 4.17), with limited use of concealed allocation and no participant blinding. As a synthesis it is not assessed with RoB 2 or ROBINS-I; its certainty is limited by the weak quality of the pooled primary trials. Note also an indirectness concern for the question at hand: the population is adolescent athletes (≤20 years, including prepubertal), not healthy exercising adults.
