Refunds and cancellation

Cancel whenever you like, keep what you have paid for, and talk to us before your bank.

Cancelling

You can cancel at any time from the billing portal. There is no notice period, no cancellation fee, and nothing to email us about first.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not cut off the period you have already paid for — your access and your remaining allowance run to the end of it, and the subscription simply does not renew after that.

Refunds

We do not refund part of a period you have already used, because the allowance is available to you for the whole of it whether or not you spend it. Cancelling mid-month leaves your access intact until the period ends; it does not produce a partial refund.

We do refund when the service failed to do what you paid for. If graded_research charged against your allowance and returned nothing usable, or the service was unavailable for a meaningful part of your billing period, write in and we will put it right — normally by restoring the allowance, or by refunding the period if restoring it is not the honest answer.

Ask within 60 days of the charge. A refund goes back to the card that paid, and takes five to ten business days to appear depending on your bank.

What a commissioned question costs you

Reading the corpus is unlimited on every plan and draws on nothing. Only graded_research — commissioning a question that is not already covered — draws on the allowance. A question already in the corpus is answered from it and costs you nothing, however many times it is asked.

This matters for refunds: if you are near your allowance, most of what you ask is likely to be answered from the existing corpus rather than metered.

Disputes

If a charge looks wrong, tell us before opening a dispute with your bank. We can see the subscription, the invoice and the allowance drawn against it, and a mistake on our side is faster to fix directly than through a chargeback — which freezes the amount for both of us for weeks.

We answer disputes with the subscription record, the invoice, and the log of what was commissioned against the allowance.

Changes to a price

An existing subscription keeps the price it was created at. If we change what a plan costs, that applies to new subscriptions; yours does not move underneath you. If a plan's allowance changes in your favour, you get it without a new price and without your bill moving.
